Leicester City To Win To Nil

      Reason for tip

Leicester City will be desperate to bounce back to the Championship at the first time of asking and they can head into their league opener with a positive result in this EFL Cup first-round tie. The Foxes have already defeated Northampton in pre-season and another comfortable win could be on the cards at the King Power Stadium.

      Leicester City 3-0

      Reason for tip

Leicester City won two pre-season friendlies by 3-0 scorelines, against Northampton and Burton, while they also netted three times in a 3-3 draw against Malaga. As for the Cobblers, they failed to score in three of their pre-season matches and could struggle in attack again.

      Leicester City vs Northampton Predictions

      • Leicester City won four of their six pre-season friendlies
      • One of those was 3-0 victory over Northampton Town
      • Both teams head into the campaign with new managers

Martin to get off to positive start

Relegated from the Championship last season, Leicester City will be eager to make an instant return to England’s second tier and they have been busy in the transfer market, bringing in Conor Chaplin, Alex McCarthy, Liam Cullen, Christian McFarlane and Tommy Watson.

League One glory looks likely for the Foxes and they can ensure they head into the league opener against Notts County next weekend on the back of an EFL Cup first-round win over Northampton Town, who were relegated to League Two last season after winning just nine of their 46 matches.

New Leicester manager Russell Martin has guided his side to four wins, one draw and one defeat in pre-season, with one of those victories a 3-0 success against the Cobblers, who had the worst away record in the 2025-26 League One campaign.

The East Midlands outfit also defeated Burton 3-0 in pre-season and they have been in solid scoring form, having netted three times in a draw against Malaga and twice in a 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers.

Northampton have been blanked in three of their five games ahead of the new campaign and this lack of attacking threat means they are in for a tough afternoon at the King Power Stadium.
