Southampton Draw No Bet

Reason for tip

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s time looks limited in the Leicester dugout, with the Foxes having suffered defeat in 17 of their last 19 top-flight outings. Basement boys Southampton have seen performances improve in recent weeks and could add to their misery.

Southampton 2-1

Reason for tip

Both teams to score has been a winning bet in 12 of Southampton’s last 16 league matches, so correct-score punters may want to plunge for a 2-1 away win. That was the scoreline in their only previous road success at Ipswich in February.

Leicester City vs Southampton Predictions

  • Leicester have lost 17 of their last 19 Premier League matches
  • The Saints have failed to score only three times in their last 14 league matches
  • Both teams have scored in 12 of Southampton’s last 16 league games

Southampton more motivated for success

There is nothing but pride at stake for Leicester and Southampton, who will both be preparing for Championship football next season having each been woefully out of their depth in the Premier League.

Southampton have four matches to pick up one more point and avoid equaling the embarrassment of being the worst team in Premier League history, a tag held by the Derby team of 2007-08, who finished with only 11 points from their 38 games.

The Saints have won only one of their last 24 top-flight fixtures but, to their credit, recent performances have been more encouraging and they have failed to score in only three of their last 14 league games.

Southampton drew 1-1 at West Ham on their last away trip and were undone late on in last weekend’s 2-1 loss at home to Fulham, who needed an injury-time winner from Ryan Sessegnon to land the spoils.

Fragile Foxes offering little resistance

Interim manager Simon Rusk is getting some sort of response from his players and this could be a good opportunity for them against Leicester, who have managed only eight points more from their 34 league outings.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s time looks limited in the Leicester dugout, with the Foxes having suffered defeat in 17 of their last 19 top-flight outings.

Leicester currently look in a worse place than Southampton do and they come into this clash having failed to score in 12 of their last 14 league matches.

The Foxes are still over-reliant on the services of veteran Jamie Vardy, who has confirmed that he will depart the King Power Stadium in the summer, and that doesn’t bode well given Saints are starting to find some scoring form.

Leicester did win 3-2 away at St Mary’s in October but the King Power has turned hostile and it is easy to see the roles being reversed as the Foxes have suffered nine straight defeats to nil at home.

Goals could be on the cards

Since the turn of the year, Southampton have scored on away trips to Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham and they look the most likely winners in a clash between the two worst teams in the Premier League.

Leicester look extremely vulnerable given their lack of firepower, but even they might manage a consolation goal against Southampton, who have conceded in 17 straight league outings.

Both teams to score has been a winning bet in 12 of Southampton’s last 16 league matches, so correct-score punters may want to plunge for a 2-1 away win. That was the scoreline in their only previous road success at Ipswich in February.
