Leicester City vs Wigan Predictions
- Leicester City won seven of their 10 competitive home matches this season.
- The Foxes have kept more Premier League clean sheets than any other team in the division this term.
- Struggling Wigan are the Championship’s joint lowest scorers this season.
- The Latics failed to register in 50% of their away league matches since the summer.
Leicester huge favourites to triumph
Premier League high-fliers Leicester City host Championship relegation candidates at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, in an FA Cup third round contest that should prove routine for the Foxes.
After back-to-back defeats against top of the table rivals Man City and Liverpool at the end of December, Leicester fired back in typical style with successive impressive wins away at West Ham (2-1) and Newcastle (3-0), and the Foxes are huge favourites to add a third victory to that sequence this weekend.
With fixtures coming thick and fast, and three domestic competitions to juggle, Brendan Rodgers will likely make a smattering of changes to his XI for Saturday’s game, though any reduction in Leicester’s winning power is likely to be negligible.
City have been incredibly consistent at the King Power Stadium this term, losing just one of the 10 games they’ve contested there since the summer, and the Foxes came out on top in 12 of their last 15 matches home and away since the first week of October.
Leicester’s superb defensive numbers
A major characteristic of Leicester’s excellent performances this season has been their robust defensive displays. Only runaway leaders Liverpool have conceded fewer Premier League goals than the Foxes in 2019/20, though Leicester are out on their own in the clean sheets stakes having kept their opponents off the scoresheet eight times already since August.
On Saturday, Leicester’s well-drilled defensive unit comes up against the joint lowest scoring attack in the Championship, and the Foxes’ chances of adding another clean sheet to their superb record for the season feel high.
Wigan, who sit 3rd from bottom in the table, scored just 24 times in 26 Championship fixtures so far this season, and the Latics failed to register in a dreadful 50% of the total away games they have navigated in 2019/20 to date.
Another Foxes clean sheet in the offing?
Unsurprisingly, Leicester are expected to dominate from the off against an extremely toothless Wigan team on Saturday, and with that considered, the City win to nil market looks extremely favourable at the prices quoted.
Alongside our win to nil prediction, we’re tipping the home side to run out comfortable 3-0 winners in our correct score forecast.
With seven wins from 10 competitive fixtures, Leicester’s strength at home this season is well established, and the Foxes have already shown this term that they can dismiss lower-league opponents with ease.
Leicester put four and three goals past Championship team Luton Town (4-0) and League One’s Burton Albion (3-1) in the early rounds of the League Cup – and both those ties were played away from the King Power Stadium.
In more comfortable home surroundings, the Foxes should be just as dominant and we’re tipping them to notch three more against an ordinary looking Wigan outfit this weekend.
