Tip Reasoning

  • Both teams have scored in four of Lens’ first five Ligue 1 games and in four of Lille’s opening five league matches.
  • The sides’ ten combined league fixtures so far have yielded 35 goals in total.
  • Lens are unbeaten but have drawn both of their home starts, while two of Lille’s three away trips have also finished level.

Derby du Nord should not disappoint

Lille won both of last season’s Ligue 1 meetings with Lens by an aggregate score of 7-0, but the goals should be more evenly spread this time around when the teams square off at Stade Bollaert-Delellis on Saturday.

This has the makings of an absolute cracker based on how both sides’ league matches have panned out thus far, with the teams’ ten combined Ligue 1 fixtures to date generating a huge 35 goals.

Both teams have netted in four of Lens’ five starts and in four of Lille’s five matches, so the 4/5 about that happening in this weekend’s Derby du Nord looks generous to say the least.

Lille battered their northern rivals in 2020/21, though it’s hard to anticipate a similar outcome here considering how the champions have been struggling in the opening exchanges of the campaign.

Things were looking up for Les Dogues after a 2-1 win against Montpellier on their penultimate start, however, they slumped to a 2-1 loss at Lorient last time out and Lens should be highly encouraged by their opponents’ problems in addition to their own excellent form.

Just shy of the European places last term following their promotion from Ligue 2, Lens are currently seven places above Lille in fifth after two wins and three draws.

They rate the most likely winners this Saturday, though we’re going for a 2-2 correct score alongside our both teams to score wager. Both of Lens’ outings at Stade Bollaert-Delellis thus far have finished level, while Lille have drawn two of their three league games on the road.

Lille also drew 0-0 in midweek when they hosted Wolfsburg in the UEFA Champions League, but Jocelyn Gourvennec’s charges should be back amongst the goals this weekend in what’s set to be a blitzkrieg derby clash.
