Nice to fall to another defeat

Lens can be backed to win at home to Nice on Sunday, with the visitors out of form coming into this game.

Lens are top of the league, having won 11 of their 15 games so far, while Nice are 12th with five wins, two draws and eight defeats. Last season, Nice finished with 60 points and Lens achieved 52.

Lens kept up their recent winning trend with a 2-1 victory away at Nantes last weekend, dominating possession with 65.8%. They have won all nine of the games in which they’ve scored first this season.

The visitors are out of form. Nice have not won any of their last three Ligue 1 away games and have sustained five successive reverses.

The Lens attack has been enjoying a prolific spell in front of goal, having scored in eight of their last nine league games. They have found the net at least twice in seven of those matches, including a 4-1 win over Monaco last month.

The visitors are looking vulnerable at the back. Nice have yet to keep a clean sheet away from home this season, conceding 16 goals in seven Ligue 1 road games – an average of 2.29 goals per game.

Nice have gone unbeaten in nine of the last ten Ligue 1 head-to-head meetings with Lens, but they have not won in their last five league games and have lost six of their last eight away days. In contrast, Lens have only lost one of their last ten matches and have gone six home games unbeaten.

Lens are in excellent form at home, having won seven of their last eight games on their own ground. They come into this match on the back of six consecutive victories.

A narrow 1-0 victory for Lens looks the most likely outcome in the correct-score market. At least one of the sides blanked in seven of the last nine Ligue 1 clashes between these two, and seven of Lens’ 11 wins this season were by a single goal.
