Close encounter in Northern France

Both teams will take to the field at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy with the hope of securing their first win of their respective Champions League (UCL) campaigns.

The hosts are coming off a 2-1 defeat to RB Salzburg in their previous Champions League match. They went two goals down before hitting back through Burak Yilmaz.
It was always going to be a tough ask for Lille to replicate last season as they won their domestic league, but losing the manager and a number of key players has meant that Jocelyn Gourvennec’s team have had an average season so far. Not ideal when you consider they have a poor record in this competition as it is, having never progressed beyond the group stage.

The visitors are unbeaten in the UCL so far this season, although both of their games have ended in draws.
Julen Lopetegui will be happy with his sides start to the season having seen just one defeat in all competitions. They’re in a good place and come into this game having beaten Celta Vigo 1-0 away from home over the weekend.

Neither of these sides have been prolific in front of goal in this competition and it’ll be important for both sides not to lose this one. We think is one will be extremely tight and a single goal could the difference-maker.
