Liverpool vs Chelsea Predictions
- Liverpool have lost only two of their last 16 home matches
- Chelsea have lost six Premier League games in a row
- The Blues have won on only one of their last ten league trips to Anfield
Reds can rule against crumbling Chelsea
Chelsea’s season continues to go from bad to worse and six straight defeats in the Premier League have all-but ended any hopes of them securing a top-five finish.
Interim manager Calum McFarlane insists that the Blues are motivated to finish the season strongly but Monday’s 3-1 defeat at home to a much-changed Nottingham Forest side suggested otherwise and maximum focus may already be on the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Liverpool also suffered a weekend setback, going down 3-2 away to top-five rivals Manchester United on Sunday, but having trailed 2-0 inside just 14 minutes they did show some spirit.
The Reds have endured a dramatic decline, with last season’s champions only fourth in the standings, but Champions League qualification remains firmly in their grasp.
Injuries are not helping matters, especially with Hugo Ekitike ruled out for the remainder of the season, but there is some hope that Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah could be available to feature.
Liverpool should relish Anfield return
Even if neither make it as was the case against United, Arne Slot’s side have been far more reliable at Anfield. Liverpool have lost just two of their last 16 home assignments and those reverses came against Manchester City and Paris St-Germain.
Liverpool have recorded two-goal wins over Fulham and Crystal Palace in their last two home league games and they are fancied to overcome Chelsea, who have been beaten 3-0 on their last two away league trips to Everton and Brighton.
The hosts may be a long way below the levels that they set last season but their struggles are not a patch on the problems at Chelsea, who have won on only one of their last ten league visits to Anfield.
The Blues have failed to score in six of their last nine matches and, with talisman Cole Palmer clearly devoid of confidence, they are struggling for goals and creativity.
Liverpool have enough quality left to take care of this Chelsea side and backing them to win 2-1 could be the way to profit. That was the scoreline in this fixture last season and the Reds have kept only one clean sheet in their last eight outings.
