Liverpool vs West Ham United Predictions
- West Ham have failed to win on any of their last ten visits to Anfield
- Liverpool have won five of their six matches this season
- The Reds have scored at least three goals in five of their last eight home meetings with the Hammers
Reds to deliver a hammer blow
West Ham have a miserable recent record on trips to Anfield and their recent form suggests they may struggle to end their misery in away matches with Liverpool.
The Hammers have failed to win on ten visits to the Reds’ stronghold and they are on a winless streak of three matches so our prediction is for a home in which both teams get on the scoresheet.
One glimmer of hope for the east London side is that Liverpool boss Arne Slot may choose to rotate his side amid a hectic schedule and the Reds have shown some vulnerability in recent outings.
Nottingham Forest stunned the Kop with a 1-0 win at Anfield ten days ago, while Milan scored first despite losing 3-1 to the Reds in the Champions League last week.
And Bournemouth had the ball in the back of the net first in their Premier League clash on Saturday, only for it to be ruled out for offside before Liverpool gathered themselves to run out 3-0 winners.
So Slot’s side can be got at and any changes in defence could lead to a disjointed display, so we predict at least a goal for West Ham, who could find the Reds too tough a nut to crack on Merseyside once again.
Dutch star determined to shine
Cody Gakpo has started just one of Liverpool’s six matches this term so the Dutchman, who starred for the Netherlands at Euro 2024, will be determined to make the most of a likely start at Anfield on Wednesday.
Gakpo was excellent for the Reds in their Champions League triumph over AC Milan last week, but he was relegated to the bench again as in-form winger Luis Diaz was restored to Liverpool’s starting line-up for the win over Bournemouth.
The Dutch forward bagged three goals for the Oranje in Germany this summer and will be desperate to make the most of his chance if given the nod to start by Slot this week.
Gakpo is a fine finisher who scord 16 times for Liverpool last season, including four on their way to winning the Carabao Cup and we predict he will make his mark in the competition once again this week.
