There is a battle at the bottom in Ligue 1 on Sunday as Lyon host Clermont, the only side below them in the table.

Both of these teams are still seeking their first win of the season and with both defences looking incredibly vulnerable the goals markets are probably the best place to start with this fixture.

Both defences likely to be breached

Lyon were 3-1 up against fellow strugglers Lorient in their last game before the international break but managed to blow their lead as they were held to a 3-3 draw.

Les Gones have now shipped 16 goals in just eight Ligue 1 games, while Clermont aren’t faring much better and have conceded 12 in seven.

Clermont have managed just one clean sheet this season and Lyon have kept two, but 11 of the 16 goals they have conceded have come in home games, while Clermont have scored three goals in their last two away games and are yet to keep a shut-out on their travels.

Spoils could be shared

Clermont had a good record against Lyon last season as they won both meetings and they may be able to get a result on Sunday.

The visitors did manage to hold PSG to a 0-0 draw last time out and two of Lyon’s last four have finished all square. Both sides are of course desperate to record a first win but a desire not to lose may outweigh the desperation for a first three points in this bottom of the table meeting. As such, a 1-1 draw is the correct score prediction here.
