England vs Ghana Predictions
- England beat Croatia 4-2 in their opener
- Ghana have five defeats in their last seven games
- England have won four of their last 10 games by two or more goals
Ghana next up for rampant England
England claimed a deserved 4-2 victory over Croatia in their World Cup opener and can win Group L with a game to spare by seeing off Ghana on Tuesday.
The Black Stars also won their first game of the tournament as they edged out Panama 1-0, but it took a last gasp strike to get that win over the line and their performance suggested they will struggle to make any inroad against the Three Lions.
Ghana saw less of the ball and had just two shots on target to Panama’s four – and England may be able to win convincingly on Tuesday.
Three Lions can cover a handicap
England are heavy favourites to win and the best angle looks to be backing them to cover a -2 handicap. England have occasionally struggled to kill teams off under Thomas Tuchel but they looked slick in attack in their opener and had enough opportunities to win by a bigger margin, with Croatia stopper Dominik Livakovic making a couple of exceptional saves.
Ghana have five defeats in their last seven games and that run has included a 5-1 loss to Austria. The West Africans also lost 2-1 to Germany and 2-0 to Mexico, and both scorelines flattered them on the balance of play.
England better in attack than at the back
A comfortable England win is expected but Ghana may still be able to get a consolation goal and a 4-1 Three Lions win has a chance.
Ghana have only failed to score in one of their last five games and England have conceded in three of their last five, and Tuchel’s side looked vulnerable at the back at times against Croatia.
There are a few contenders in the England squad for an anytime goal and Marcus Rashford stands out if he is given the nod ahead of Anthony Gordon but it is hard to ignore Harry Kane even at an odds-on price.
Kane scored twice in the win over Croatia to extend his England record to 81 goals. The Bayern Munich man is now level with Gary Lineker on 10 England goals at World Cups and he can claim that record outright with a goal against the Black Stars.
