Manchester City and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

City are unbeaten at home this term, winning 18 of their 22 games at the Etihad, and should be too strong for the Hatters. However, both teams to score has been a winning bet in 11 of Luton’s last 12 matches and given they have netted at Liverpool and Spurs already this season, they could have enough to score against the champions, even in defeat.

Manchester City 3-1

Reason for tip

The Citizens narrowly won 2-1 at Kenilworth Road in the reverse fixture but should enjoy a bigger margin of victory on their own patch, where they beat Aston Villa 4-1 in their last match at the Etihad. Luton have netted three times in their two meetings with the champions this term and can get on the scoresheet again.

Mateo Kovacic To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Luton are likely to sit deep as they aim to contain City’s plethora of attacking talent, which could open up space for the hosts’ midfielders to shoot from range. Rodri could be rested for this match after a lengthy run of starts, meaning Mateo Kovacic should start in the middle and given he netted in the Citizens’ 6-2 FA Cup win at Luton in February, he rates a decent outside shout to breach the Hatters again.

Manchester City vs Luton Predictions

  • Manchester City are unbeaten in their 22 home games this season, winning 18 in that run
  • Both teams to score has been a winning bet in 11 of Luton’s last 12 matches
  • The Citizens have kept just two clean sheets in their last nine games and conceded to the Hatters in both previous meetings between the pair this season

City can heap the pressure on title rivals

With Arsenal and Liverpool not playing until Sunday, Manchester City have the opportunity to take the initiative in an extremely tight Premier League title race when they take on Luton on Saturday and given the 1-10 odds about for them to take three points, it would seem the Citizens could not have asked for an easier match.

Pep Guardiola’s men are chasing a fourth consecutive title and their home form is doing wonders for their chances, with City still unbeaten at the Etihad in all competitions this term after 22 matches in a run which includes 18 wins.

Their most recent match on their own patch saw them brush aside a talented Aston Villa side 4-1 while they have also dispatched Newcastle and rivals Manchester United with ease at the Etihad in recent weeks.

The market suggests this will be a walk in the park for Guardiola’s titans, but Rob Edwards’ Luton are brave and the Hatters could have a trick or two up their sleeve.

Luton likely to catch champions out

While a win may prove to be beyond Luton, who are firmly in the relegation battle after a run of seven losses in their last ten Premier League games, they may just about have enough to get on the scoresheet in Manchester.

The Hatters will take momentum from their last-gasp win over Bournemouth last weekend and could use that to net against the champions – a feat they have already achieved three times this term.

The reverse fixture saw Luton give City a serious scare before eventually losing 2-1 while the pair’s FA Cup clash in February produced eight goals, two of which were scored by Edwards’ side.

Given the Hatters have already netted at Anfield and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this term, as well as sensationally scoring four at St James’ Park, it does not seem farfetched to say they have what it takes to leave their mark at the Etihad.

Citizens’ dodgy defence needs fixing fast

If City are to see off their title rivals in an almighty race for the Premier League, they must fix their defensive issues soon.

The champions have managed just two clean sheets in their last nine games, conceding to the likes of Crystal Palace and Copenhagen in that run, and will need to sure up at the back if they are to land a fourth consecutive title.

They should be too strong for Luton eventually but due to feeling the effects of their midweek draw with Real Madrid – a match in which the reigning Champions League winners conceded three – it seems likely City will concede to the Hatters, who have seen both sides score in 11 of their last 12 games.
