Marseille to Win and Over 3.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Two wins from three Ligue 1 matches represents a disappointing start to the season for Marseille but last season’s runners-up should have no issues in bouncing back against promoted Lorient. They beat another promoted side, Paris FC, 5-2 in their only first home game of the campaign and look set for another goal-filled victory.

Marseille 4-1

Reason for tip

With Marseille’s last five home matches producing a total of 29 goals it makes sense to back them to rout Lorient, who were beaten 7-1 by Lille in their last home match. OM did concede twice to Paris in their last home game, though, so back the visitors to net in defeat.

Marseille vs Lorient Predictions

  • Marseille have won five straight home games, with each of those matches featuring at least four goals
  • A total of 29 goals were scored in those five games, with both teams finding the net in each of them
  • Lorient have conceded eight goals while losing two of their first three Ligue 1 games

Mighty Marseille can rack up the goals

It has been a disappointing start to the season for last term’s Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille, who have lost two of their opening three games this time around, suffering away defeats at Rennes and Marseille.

However, their sole home match saw them rout promoted Paris FC 5-2 and they will get the opportunity to put another new boy to the sword when hosting Lorient on Friday night.

Marseille’s thrashing of Paris was no fluke either, with Roberto De Zerbi’s side netting 16 goals winning their four previous home games, and another high-scoring victory is on the cards.

Lorient look set for another tough test

A 4-0 win over Rennes means Lorient also have three points in as many games but they were extremely fortunate to triumph in that derby. Their rivals were reduced to nine men after just 11 minutes and losses to Auxerre and Lille suggest this trip to Marseille will only end one way.

The second of those defeats saw Lorient routed 7-1, too, so expect OM to rack up the goals while securing three points on Friday.

De Zerbi doesn’t know the meaning of the word handbrake and with Marseille’s last five home matches seeing a total of 29 goals scored, it makes sense to pair over 3.5 goals with an OM victory.
