Marseille struggles continue

Shakhtar Donetsk twice came from behind to earn a draw in the first leg of this tie in Hamburg and they can take beyond 90 minutes against a struggling Marseille outfit.

Thursday’s hosts followed that draw with a defeat away to Brest, extending their winless run to seven matches in all competitions and leaving them without a victory at the Orange Velodrome since mid-December.

Shakhtar return to action in style

For Shakhtar, last week’s draw marked their return from the winter break and it was their first competitive action since a thrilling 5-3 loss to Porto in the Champions League.

That leaves them with three defeats in their last 14 competitive outings and they have haven’t lost any of their three previous meetings with Marseille, so they look good value in the double chance market.

I do expect it to be taken to extra time, though. Marseille have drawn six of their last nine matches and four of those stalemates have been 1-1 affairs, so that’s a good option for a correct score prediction.
