Melbourne City vs Wellington Phoenix Predictions
Melbourne City have been in good form over the past couple of months. They have only lost one o their last eight matches in the Hyundai A-League and have won five times during this period.
But they have been struggling to find victory over the past few weeks, with two draws, one loss, and one win in their last four matches.
However, Melbourne City are still within sight of the top of the Hyundai A-League, sitting in 4th position with just five points separating them from the top of the table Brisbane Roar.
Wellington Phoenix won’t be holding out any hopes of claiming the A-League’s top spot. They are down in 7th position with just 16 points from their opening 15 games, and they are already seven points adrift of the last of the playoff positions.
They come into this match in terrible form as well. They haven’t won any of their last six league games and have been defeated four times.
Away from home they are in even worse shape, with six of their last eight away days ending in defeat and the other two being uninspiring draws.
Melbourne City, on the other hand, have won three of their last four home matches and drawn the other one, and their impressive attack will be looking to take advantage of the visitors’ shocking defence.
Wellington Phoenix have conceded 17 goals in their last eight away matches and nine in their last four matches home and away. Melbourne City have managed to score an impressive 24 goals in their last eight outings, so it could be a bloodbath on Monday.
Seven of Melbourne City’s last eight matches have ended with four or more goals scored, and their gung-ho approach combined with Wellington Phoenix’s poor defence is making me think a thrashing is on the way. Odds of 1.900 for a Melbourne City -1.0 Asian Handicap looks really good value to me.
