Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Both teams have scored in four of the last five meetings of these clubs while Paris Saint-Germain kept only seven Ligue 1 clean sheets last season, including two in the second half of the campaign. Les Canaris’ top scorer from last season is in the squad and could give PSG’s back four some problems after they shipped two against Spurs on Wednesday.

PSG 3-2

Reason for tip

Paris Saint-Germain conceded three to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final and two to Tottenham on Wednesday. They play an open and attack-minded style that gives their opponents chances of they are clinical enough to take them. Two of Nantes’ last three pre-season matches finished in 3-2 defeats and a similar scoreline may be possible if the hosts push PSG.

PSG face tricky trip west

Paris Saint-Germain face a tricky trip to a sold-out Stade de la Beaujoire for their Ligue 1 opener as the treble champions bid to avoid a come-down from their midweek European Super Cup win.

Nantes have been awkward opponents for Luis Enrique’s side of late and drew both of last season’s encounters 1-1, going into those clashes in 16th and 13th place respectively. Les Canaris finished a disappointing 13th and fired Antoine Kombouare at the end of the campaign, appointing ex-Dunkerque boss Luis Castro in his place.

There is not a great deal of optimism about what lies ahead amid rumours they could sell striker Matthis Abline, although last season’s club top scorer is in the squad to face PSG.

Value in BTTS markets again

The champions are getting rid of Gianluigi Donnarumma, so summer recruit Lucas Chevalier will start in goal and there are some injury doubts about Bradley Barcola and Senny Mayulu. Joao Neves is suspended too, but PSG’s squad depth is good enough to cope.

Backing the visitors to win is not a get-rich-quick scheme, but there should be decent value in the 7/10 about both teams to score. BTTS has landed in four of the last five meetings of these clubs.

PSG’s style is hardly conducive to turgid tussles either, as only seven Ligue 1 clean sheets last season, including two in the second half of the campaign, show. Nantes showed the spirit required to stop Ligue 1’s aristocrats from marching all over them twice last season, so the short odds on the visitors may best be avoided even if they do find a way to win.
