Napoli vs Monza Predictions

  • Five of Napoli’s last six Serie A wins have been by more than a one-goal margin, including last week’s 5-2 triumph at Verona.
  • Monza have conceded at least two goals in three successive competitive matches, going six without a clean sheet.
  • Napoli scored 37 goals in 19 home Serie A matches last season, and conceded just 16 times.

Partenopei make light of departures

Despite losing a host of key players including attacking legends Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne during a difficult off-season, Napoli produced a scintillating attacking performance to begin their Serie A campaign with a 5-2 victory at Verona last week. With newly promoted Monza the first visitors to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona this season, Luciano Spalletti’s men will be eyeing more goals.

Since Napoli’s Scudetto hopes were ended by a poor run of form in April, they’ve won five consecutive Serie A matches, scoring 18 goals during that run. Indeed, Napoli averaged almost two goals per home game last season, while only Inter (84) and Lazio (77) bettered their total of 74 Serie A goals. Five of the last six wins managed by Spalletti’s team have been by two goals or more, and adding Giovanni Simeone to an attack still spearheaded by Victor Osimhen means they retain plenty of firepower.

Newly promoted Monza suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Torino last time out, and have now conceded multiple goals in each of their last three competitive matches going back to a thrilling 4-3 win over Pisa in last term’s Serie B play-offs. Giovanni Stroppa’s team have now gone six competitive games without a clean sheet, and that run looks likely to continue as he integrates 20 new signings.

Routine home win expected

Given Napoli’s attacking quality, backing them for a routine win looks prudent. If Osimhen and company are on song, Spalletti’s men should have no problems in beating a -1 handicap, particularly as they averaged less than a goal against per game at home last term.

Meanwhile, a 3-0 win for the hosts could represent a decent correct score prediction and Osimhen, who has three goals in his last three Serie A starts, is always a strong anytime goalscorer play.
