Tip Reasoning

  • Roma are unbeaten in their last 11 Serie A games, recording seven wins in that run.
  • Since the turn of the year, Napoli have played six games against the current top seven in Serie A, recording one win, two draws, and three losses.
  • Napoli have only won one of their last five home games in all competitions.

Napoli bid faces another stern test

Friday-night victories for both Milan giants have piled the pressure on Napoli in the Serie A title race, and after Luciano Spalletti’s team fell to a thrilling 3-2 defeat at home to Fiorentina last week, the visit of Roma is certain to provide the Partenopei with another very stern test, with the Giallorossi unbeaten in 11 league games and Napoli winning one of their last five on home soil.

Spalletti was furious after last week’s home defeat to La Viola, with the Scudetto now out of Napoli’s hands at the business end of the season. Although Napoli have still put together an incredible campaign, a series of poor results against those around them threaten to derail their title bid; Napoli have faced top-seven opponents on six occasions since the turn of the year (with one of those games being a Coppa Italia tie with Fiorentina). Spalletti’s team have only won one of those games, at Lazio, losing three.

Roma will be on a high after thrashing Bodo/Glimt 4-0 to reach the Europa Conference League semi-finals, and have won seven and drawn four of their last 11 league games. Mourinho’s men have consistently ranked as the second-best team in the division according to expected goals (xG) this season, but have also added a solid streak recently, keeping three clean sheets in their last five. Furthermore, recent wins over Lazio and Atalanta displayed their ability to compete with the best.

Giallorossi look decent value for a result

Given the recent tendency of Napoli, or any of their title rivals for that matter, to drop points in an absorbing Scudetto fight, they do not look worth backing at a short price.

Roma, meanwhile, are back in contention for a top-four spot after their fine form, and the price around Jose Mourinho’s men on the double chance market could be worth exploring.

The two teams drew 0-0 in October’s return fixture, and another draw could represent decent correct score value; punters are advised to plump for 1-1, with Napoli going 10 games without a clean sheet.
