Netherlands to ease to victory
The Netherlands begin their final World Cup preparations with a friendly tie against Algeria at Rotterdam’s De Kuip on Wednesday.
The Dutch were unbeaten in their eight World Cup qualifying matches in a section which contained Poland, Finland, Malta and Lithuania.
Ronald Koeman’s men scored 27 goals and conceded only four in their effort to reach the international showpiece and the Netherlands head to the USA, Mexico and Canada as 20/1 chances to lift the trophy.
Oranje have been housed in a section containing Japan, Sweden and Tunisia and the Dutch will be hopeful of progress.
Algeria qualified for the World Cup with ease and the Greens reached the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
Vladimir Petkovic’s men have lost only one of their last 17 matches, which was the AFCON last-eight defeat to Nigeria, but those contests have not come against opposition at the level of the Netherlands.
March’s 0-0 friendly draw with Uruguay saw Algeria fail to hit a single shot on target and this Rotterdam contest looks a simple case of the Dutch trying to break the Greens down.
Oranje are 4/9 to win this contest, which is potentially a little generous, but the 13/10 that the Netherlands win to nil is the standout bet.
The Netherlands conceded only four goals in their eight World Cup qualifying matches and Oranje take on an Algeria side, who failed to register a single shot on target when drawing 0-0 with Uruguay in March. Ronald Koeman’s men are fancied to win 2-0 in Rotterdam.
