Newcastle Jets vs Melbourne Victory Predictions
Newcastle Jets had a terrible season last year, with their total points haul of 17 points leaving them languishing at the bottom of the Hyundai A-League after their 27 league games.
They have brought in a number of players to try and remedy the situation, but the addition of no new marquee players is surprising considering their need for quality.
But the Jets started the season well, beating last season’s 4th place finishers Wellington Phoenix away from home in their opening game. They did then lose at home against last season’s away day specialists Sydney FC though.
This match could be very difficult for them though. Melbourne Victory had an excellent 2014/15 campaign, picking up both the Hyundai A-League Premier title and Championship.
They finished the season three points ahead of their closest rivals Sydney FC, and then went on to beat the runners up in the Championship final to claim both titles.
But Melbourne Victory started their own season with a bit of an anticlimax, drawing 0-0 at 3rd place finishers Adelaide United.
The following weekend’s derby clash lived up to the hype though, with Melbourne Victory coming away with a 3-2 win over Melbourne City.
One of last season’s standout performers Besart Berisha grabbed a 90th minute winner for the defending champions after the visitors pulled it back after being 2-0 down in a thriller of a game.
There hasn’t been much activity in the transfer market from Melbourne Victory, probably because they have already shown they have the quality in their squad to win the title. But they did bring in Oliver Bozanic, Giancarlo Gallifuoco, and Danny Vukovic.
It’s been very even during past meetings between these sides, with each team getting one win apiece and three draws in their last five meetings.
I think Melbourne Victory have the quality to see off Newcastle Jets on Friday, and I’m liking the look of a Melbourne Victory win at odds of 4/5, along with a 2-0 correct scoreline at 8/1.
