Newcastle Jets vs Western Sydney Wanderers Predictions
Newcastle Jets looked to be on track for another really disappointing season this term when they were in the midst of a ten match winless streak back in January, but they have managed to bounce back from this and put together a good run of results.
They have won three of their last five matches, with their only loss being away to Perth Glory last weekend. This run has brought them back into contention for an unlikely playoff position. They sit in 8th position, with just five points between them and 6th placed Perth Glory.
Western Sydney Wanderers are hoping for a rather more lucrative prize. They sit in 3rd position in the A-League with just a single point separating them from top of the table Adelaide United, who lost to 2nd placed Melbourne City on Friday.
This means that a win on Sunday would see Western Sydney Wanderers take the top spot thanks to this result, but they will have to be on form to make that step. They have only won one of their last five in the A-League, and away from home they have lost two, drawn three, and won one of their last six outings.
We can be fairly sure of goals though. Newcastle Jets have played their part in some high scoring matches recently, with five of their last eight ending with three or more goals scored in. Western Sydney Wanderers may be in poor form but they have managed to net 18 times in their last nine matches and seen Over 2.5 goals on seven occasions.
This makes odds of 3/5 for Over 2.5 Goals look very fair to me, and I’m backing a high scoring 2-2 draw at 11/1.
