Newcastle vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions
- Newcastle have won each of their last six matches at St James’ Park.
- The Magpies have won four in a row and six of their last seven against Tottenham.
- Spurs have lost three on the bounce and five of their last seven across all competitions
Magpies magnificent on home soil
Newcastle secured their first Premier League away win of the season in emphatic fashion at Everton on Saturday, triumphing 4-1, and they will be confident of following up back on home soil at St James’ Park where their form remains strong.
Eddie Howe’s side have won six home matches on the spin across all competitions, and their only Tyneside defeats this season have come in narrow fashion against Arsenal and Liverpool in the league and Barcelona in Europe.
The Magpies also have a strong recent record against Spurs, as they have won four in a row and six of their last seven against the north Londoners, including claiming a 2-0 EFL Cup success when the two teams last met at St James’ in October.
Frank feeling the pressure
That EFL Cup defeat appears to have had a damaging effect on Spurs, as it kickstarted a run that has seen them lose five of their last seven across all competitions to ramp up the pressure on head coach Thomas Frank.
Spurs were booed off by their own supporters after Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Fulham – a third loss in a row – and they head into this game level on points with Newcastle.
Frank’s side have been generally better on their travels this season than they have at home, with 13 of their 18 Premier League points being picked up away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but they have lost three in a row on their travels in all competitions, a run that includes their cup defeat to Newcastle.
Barnes a player in form
Newcastle have scored exactly two goals in each of their last three victories over Spurs, two of which have finished 2-1, and there could be a repeat result on Tyneside this midweek.
The Magpies have beaten both Manchester City and Fulham by that scoreline at St James’ over recent weeks, while Spurs lost by the odd goal in three against Fulham.
Spurs have scored in recent away defeats at north London rivals Arsenal, as well as European champions Paris Saint-Germain, so can get on the scoresheet, but Newcastle should have too much attacking quality overall.
One of their in-form forwards is Harvey Barnes, who has seven goal involvements in his last nine Newcastle appearances, scoring six of those himself, and he could continue his hot streak at the expense of Spurs.
