Newport desperate for wins

Newport dropped out of the play-off positions on Monday after a third defeat in four matches, but a victory here will lift them back into the top seven – until Saturday evening at least.

The Exiles are struggling in front of goal, failing to score in three of their last five games, but only one of those was on home soil, a 1-0 defeat to Exeter.

Both teams have netted in just one of their last five and three of their last nine, while they have lost three in a row at Rodney Parade. Victory in this one is far from certain.

Colchester playing for pride

Colchester have finally found form in recent weeks and a run of three wins in five means they are now mathematically safe from relegation.

Wayne Brown’s side do tend to struggle for goals on the road, failing to score three times in five away fixtures, but they have also won half of their last eight.

Both teams have netted in only three of those eight outings, showing they are defensively decent, and there is a good chance they could get a victory here to move over the 50 point mark.

My initial selection is that both teams will not score in this fixture, and with the pressure off, I fancy Colchester to get a win, selecting 1-0 as a correct score prediction.
