Norway huge favourites in group opener

A staggering record in qualification saw Norway win six out of six matches, scoring 34 goals and conceding just once in the process as they comfortably reached Euro 2022.

Martin Sjögren’s side, who were runners-up in 2005 and 2013, should have the beating of Northern Ireland, who they twice hammered 6-0 en route to booking their place at the tournament.

They have in fact won 11 of their last 14 competitive matches, while 27 of their 37 outings since February 2019 have included at least three strikes.

They may boast ex-Everton forward Simone Magill in their ranks, but this is the first time Northern Ireland have reached the Euros, and they enter the tournament on the back of four straight defeats.

Kenny Shiels’ side won six of their ten games during the qualifiers, seven of which contained three or more goals.

But their defence is a huge concern, as they are without a clean sheet in six, a run that includes a 5-0 thrashing to England and recent 4-1 defeat at the hands of Belgium.
