Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions
- Spurs have lost four of their last seven away games in all competitions
- Forest have won four of their last five home Premier League matches
- Spurs are leaking goals at an alarming rate and appear to lack confidence in defence
Forest can add to Spurs’ growing problems
Nottingham Forest can continue their impressive home form when they host Tottenham Hotspur at the City Ground on Boxing Day. The Tricky Trees have been formidable on their own turf this season, losing just twice in eight home matches.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently sit in fourth place in the table, having won 2-0 away at one of the best home teams in the Premier League on Saturday – Brentford.
Forest not only inflicted a first home defeat of the season on the Bees, but they finished with more total shots and double the number of shots on target as their hosts. Espirito Santo again sounded the right tone in his post-match interviews, preferring to speak about the journey his team were on than the league position they occupy
City Ground trip could be a ‘bridge too far’ for Tottenham
Meanwhile, Spurs boss Ange Postecoglu lamented the injuries which have cost Spurs four-fifths of their first-choice back five in recent games as he spoke in the wake of Sunday’s 6-3 home loss to Liverpool.
Tottenham have shipped 13 goals in their last three home matches in all competitions and the confidence of Postecoglu’s back-up players looks completely shot at the moment. They lost aerial duels in the build-up to Liverpool’s first three goals on Sunday and were picked off by a very good opponent for three more.
The Spurs boss can make minimal changes because of his threadbare squad and the fact that his side have 24 hours less time to prepare for this away trip to Nottingham could be another “bridge too far” for his players to cross.
Forest are ready to end long wait
You have to go back to 1997 to find Forest’s last home win against Spurs, but their current form suggests they have a real chance of ending that long wait. The Reds have won four of their last five at the City Ground and seven of their last 10 in the league overall.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have lost four of their last seven away matches in all competitions and four of their last seven road trips in the league. Goalkeeper Fraser Forster has struggled to play the way Postecoglu demands and his jitters now appear to have spread to Radu Dragusin too.
This looks like a great chance to back the home side at odds against while Anthony Elanga, who has scored in back-to-back league appearances, should not be overlooked in anytime goalscorer betting.
