Notts County vs Coventry Predictions
Marc McNulty grabbed his 27th goal of the season after a controversial late penalty rescued a draw for Coventry to leave their League Two play-off semi final with Notts County in the balance. Jonathan Forte’s instinctive 49th-minute strike looked to have earned Notts the halfway advantage before Friday’s second leg at Meadow Lane. But, in the 87th minute, Matt Tootle was adjudged to have fouled Tom Bayliss despite appearing to play the ball.
It was a result which means that we go into the second leg with the tie still massively up in the air and given that the sides finished the season with just two points between them, it should come as little surprise to learn that there is such a fine margin between them.
County have an excellent record in the head to head between these two sides but even though they came within minutes of gaining a vital first leg advantage, they will be delighted to have come away with a better result than the last time they visited the Ricoh Arena where they were comfortably dispatched following a 3-0 victory for the hosts back in August.
The return leg took place just last month and following a long hard campaign, Notts County put their stick in the mud by claiming a 2-1 victory over their future play-off opponents. It is a result which boss Kevin Nolan would be delighted to take, but given the nature of the previous meeting, we can only see another nervous 90 minutes with little in the way of opportunities for either side.
That record in the head to head is hard to ignore, however, and when combined with the fairly the visitors recent inabilities to keep the ball out of the net, we think the hosts should have enough in the bank to get the job done. With this in mind, we think backing a home victory is the way to go. However, given the pressure that is on the game, adding the ‘Draw – No Bet’ clause seems like a wise move to make. For those of you that don’t already know, this simply means if the sides play out another stalemate, then our bet would be made void and our stake would be refunded.
