Oxford United vs Gillingham Predictions
Fans sitting down to watch the football scores last weekend will have seen pretty frequent updates from Man City as they put Watford to the sword, but they will have also noticed the news from the Oxford United match as they destroyed Lincoln on away soil with a 6-0 win. This weekend they have the opportunity to back that up with another three points as they welcome Gillingham to the Kassam Stadium.
It has been a difficult start for the hosts as they struggled to put points on the board, but that result last weekend didn’t exactly come out of nowhere. United have improved pretty rapidly and they have won three of their last four outings in all competitions, scoring an impressive 13 times, whilst also not being compromised at the back as they have conceded none.
One of the players who has impressed of late is winger Tarique Fosu. The 23-year-old is a new signing this summer as he has joined from recently promoted Charlton, and he has hit the ground running with four goals in his nine outings so far. Given that all four of those goals have come in his last two matches, we think that backing him to find the back of the net once again looks like a good bet to make.
The side who travel to the Kassam Stadium and are hoping to keep Fosu at bay is a Gillingham side who have had plenty of troubles of their own in the early stages of the season. The visitors have claimed just three points on the road so far this season and look like they could be in for a battle to retain their spot in England’s third tier.
With the hosts looking dangerous in almost every attack at the moment, you have to imagine they will fancy their chances of scoring a couple this weekend. However, their visitors only went down by one against the league leaders last time out and were undefeated in their last four league matches prior to that result, so they will also fancy their chances of the points.
Given that 75% of Gillingham’s away matches have finished with both teams scoring, we think that the hosts will have to ensure they score a few to earn the points, so backing there to be over 2.5 goals scored looks to be the way to go. In terms of a correct score tip, we think that Oxford should eventually prove to be too strong and a 3-1 home win looks to be a likely scoreline.
