      Paraguay vs Bolivia Predictions

It has been a mixed start for both sides. Paraguay got their campaign off in great fashion last month with a win in Venezuela and a 0-0 draw against Argentina however they were beaten in Lima last week by Peru.

Bolivia lost both their opening fixtures but picked up a crucial 3 points on Thursday when they beat Venezuela 4-2 in La Paz to end what had been a 5 game losing streak.

With the competition so tough, games like this become crucial for the less-fancied sides and both will view it as the sort of game they can’t really afford to slip up in if they are to have any chance of qualifying. That is certainly true of Paraguay, who like most sides on the continent would probably regard a home game against Bolivia as their most winnable fixture of the entire campaign.

Paraguay’s main problem is scoring goals though and if Bolivia come to defend, as they may very well do then it could be a frustrating evening for them. There have only been 2 goals in their 3 matches so far while Bolivia had failed to net in 6 of their 8 matches prior to their win last time out.

With the stakes high, this could be another tense tactical battle involving Paraguay who finished bottom of the standings in 2014 World Cup qualifying and will be keen to keep up what has been a much improved defensive showing from them. Backing there to be under 2.5 goals looks a sensible policy here then at 4/5.

Bolivia may have won and scored 4 goals at the altitude of La Paz last time out but their competitive record away from home is truly awful. They haven’t won an away game in World Cup qualifying since 1993 when they somewhat incredibly won 7-1 in Venezuela en-route to the 1994 World Cup.

They frequently get beaten to nil on the road these days though and with Paraguay looking good defensively all of a sudden, they are unlikely to score here. It may just be a question of whether Paraguay are good enough to break them down and over the 90 minutes they should have enough to find a breakthrough so consider backing a 1-0 home win at 9/2.
