Peterborough vs Manchester City Predictions
- Man City have conceded in both of their FA Cup ties this season.
- City haven’t managed a clean sheet in their last four games in this competition against teams outside of the Premier League.
- Both of City’s FA Cup wins this term have been 4-1 successes.
- Ilkay Gundogan scored in the third and fourth rounds.
Posh test for City
Manchester City head to Championship strugglers Peterborough in the FA Cup fifth round on Tuesday and the Premier League pacesetters should emerge as comfortable winners.
City haven’t been at their free flowing best over their last few games but they’ve still been creating plenty of chances and they should have far too much quality for this Posh side.
Peterborough are winless in six and have lost five of those games, I am expecting them to play with a bit more freedom on Tuesday though and they may at least be able to get on the scoresheet.
Guardiola likely to rotate
City boss Pep Guardiola has been naming strong teams in the FA Cup this season but he has still been making a few changes to his side, and he may be tempted to rest a few stars this week against lower ranked opponents.
Peterborough are having real issues in front of goal and have failed to score in five of their last six games but they might be capable of an improved performance on Tuesday. There is zero pressure on the hosts, no one is expecting them to get a result, and this game provides a welcome relief from their league woes – even if they have been handed an incredibly tough draw.
City are yet to keep a clean sheet in this competition and have reached the fifth round thanks to two 4-1 wins, at League Two Swindon and at home to Championship promotion hopefuls Fulham. Guardiola’s men have conceded in each of their last four games in this competition against teams outside of the Premier League.
The visitors are just 1/10 to back in the standard match betting market so to squeeze a bit more value out of this game I’m going for an away win with both teams to score.
Repeat result for City?
Both of Man City’s FA Cup wins this season have been 4-1 victories and we could see a repeat result at the Weston Homes Stadium. City have scored at least four goals in three of their last six games, while Posh conceded three against Hull at the weekend.
I won’t be placing any goalscorer bets until I’ve seen the City starting lineup but if he is involved from the off Ilkay Gundogan appeals. The German has started both FA Cup ties so far and scored in both games, and he can make it three in three appearances at Peterborough on Tuesday.
