      Peterhead vs Dundee Predictions

Dundee’s League Cup campaign got off to a bad start with a penalty shoot-out defeat at East Fife in their opening game. What’s worse last season’s League Two champions have won their other two matches and will win the group if they can repeat the trick in their final game against Forfar. That would leave Dundee fighting to be one of the best 2nd placed sides and they took a step in the right direction by demolishing Dumbarton 6-2 on Saturday with Greg Stewart netting a hat-trick. They were actually 2-1 down at the interval so there are still some issues that need addressing but everything seemed to click into gear after the break and they should approach this game with plenty of confidence.

Peterhead are also still in with a chance of going through but will almost certainly need to win this to stand a chance. They were 2-0 winners against Forfar in their opening game but slipped to a 2-1 defeat at East Fife at the weekend. They wouldn’t really have expected to progress from the group but will take comfort from the fact that they seem to be over their utter capitulation at the back end of last season when they lost all of their final 8 matches including both legs of a play-off with Ayr. They’d looked like very strong contenders for promotion to the Championship for most of the season but fell apart in the home stretch.

Dundee may rotate a bit here but there is also quite a bit of pressure on them given their defeat to East Fife so they can’t afford to take too many chances. Defensively they really aren’t looking that convincing and including friendlies they’ve not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 10 games since they did so ironically against Celtic. Therefore a Peterhead goal would be no surprise here but given the way Dundee ultimately disposed of a side from a higher league than Peterhead at the weekend, an away win is still the most likely outcome.

Therefore consider backing Dundee to win 3-1 at 11/1.
