Plymouth Argyle to Win

Reason for tip

Plymouth rank as a strong bet on Monday night when they take on Exeter in the Devon Derby. Plymouth are unbeaten in their last 15 matches in all competitions and have won all eight of their League One home matches this season.

Plymouth Argyle 3-1

Reason for tip

Exeter’s defensive record in recent weeks will be of big concern to head coach, Gary Caldwell. Exeter have conceded four times in three of their last five matches, two of which were away from home. Should Plymouth be at their free-flowing best on Monday, it’s unlikely the Grecians will be able to cope with an onslaught from the home side.

Plymouth Argyle vs Exeter City Predictions

  • Plymouth have won all eight of their League One home matches this season
  • Plymouth are unbeaten in their last 15 matches in all competitions (W12, D3)
  • Exeter have won one of their last five matches in all competitions (D1, L3)

Devon Derby returns after three-year absence

The eagerly awaited Devon Derby returns after a three-year hiatus – These two sides last met in League Two in the curtailed 2019-20 season. This contest has been keenly contested in recent years – the last ten league meetings between Plymouth and Exeter have been shared five wins apiece – These two last shared the points in a league fixture back in 2012. Monday’s game will be the first time the two have met in English football’s third tier since 2011.

Pilgrims the team to beat in League One

Plymouth have been the team to beat in League One this season – The Pilgrims are one-point clear of Ipswich at the top of the table and they have a game in hand on the three teams directly below them. Plymouth have won all eight of their League One home matches this season, unsurprisingly, they currently boast the best home record in the division. Plymouth could be without Finn Azaz for Monday’s game, but Steven Schumacher has several capable replacements at his disposal to fill the void left by the Irish U21 international. Plymouth are strongly fancied to extend their eight-match winning home run and take the bragging rights over their bitter rivals, Exeter.

Hard to make a case for visitors given defensive frailties

Exeter have made a reasonable start to the season following promotion from League Two, but The Grecians have stumbled in recent weeks and have now won just one of their last five matches in all competitions (D1, L3). Exeter have conceded four times in two of their last three away matches, a 4-1 defeat to Forest Green in the EFL Trophy and a 4-2 defeat in the league at Charlton. Exeter’s back three will be put to the test on Monday and their recent away efforts suggest it is unlikely they’ll will be able to withstand a Plymouth onslaught.

Plymouth can currently be backed at 10/11 for the Devon Derby and given the form The Pilgrims are in; Monday’s hosts could, arguably, be a fair bit shorter. Plymouth to win in the outright market will be the main selection for Monday’s game, with a 3-1 home victory forming the Correct Score prediction.
