      Preston vs Wolves Predictions

We might only be 8 games into the season but already you sense both these clubs are revising down their expectations for the season. Having narrowly missed out on the play-offs last year Wolves were hopeful of a real promotion push but appear to be suffering from a bout of ‘second season syndrome’. Everything about the Black Country club had been positive for a couple of years as they cruised to the League 1 title before exceeding expectations in their first term back in the Championship.

However they lost star player Bakary Sako in the closing days of the summer transfer window and a series a poor results has seen them slip down to 18th in the table. There has been the odd encouraging result but consistency has been lacking. They put in their best defensive showing of the season to hold leaders Brighton to a 0-0 draw last time out and if they can repeat that here then there is no reason why they can’t take all the points back to the West Midlands.

Their outlook is certainly still brighter than that of Preston who already appear to have lost the momentum they gained from their run to promotion via their play-offs last season. Having finished 3rd in League 1 no-one can argue that they don’t deserve to be here but whether they are good enough to stay here is an altogether different question and one that will ultimately have a negative answer unless they improve soon.

They’ve taken just 1 point from their last 5 matches and given 3 of those games were at Deepdale, where they are yet to win this season, they won’t approach this with much belief. Wolves are a little inconsistent but there is surely value at 6/5 in backing them to put in a performance here and come away with all the points in the ‘draw no bet market’.

The problem for Preston is that even when they do play well, they still don’t look like scoring many goals and winning football games. They have the league’s 2nd worst attack and although they don’t concede a huge amount, their defence is usually breached at some point in the game at this level.

Therefore consider backing Wolves to repeat their improved defensive display but this time nick a 1-0 win at 15/2.
