PSV Reserves vs Almere City FC Predictions
A testing period for Almere City went from bad to worse last week as Jong Ajax ran out 2-3 winners at Yanmar Stadion, and City are now left clinging onto a Play-off place heading into the final round of Eerste Divisie fixtures in 2018. Michele Santoni’s side need a victory here to preserve their status in the top nine, but the odds are against them as they take on a Jong PSV team who are flying after four wins from their last six games.
Almere City were bang amongst the pace setters at the start of the Eerste Divisie campaign, but Michele Santoni’s side have dropped like a stone since the beginning of October following a run of just two wins in their last ten matches.
Last week’s 2-3 home defeat to Jong Ajax means Schappenkoppen are now winless in five, and Santoni’s position could well be in jeopardy unless the Italian is able to guide his team to a victory in the final round of games before the Festive period.
Almere have a strong head to head record against this week’s opponents Jong PSV having won six and drawn two of the ten previous meetings between the pair, but success this time around looks unlikely based on their current form and Jong’s excellent recent results.
Jong are top of the Eerste Divisie form table following four wins and a draw from their last six outings, and they impressed last week with a cosy 2-4 success against Telstar in IJmuiden as Verreth, Teze, Frey and Lundqvist all got themselves amongst the goals.
Dennis Haar’s men are up to 7th in the standings as we reach the halfway stage of the season, and it’s likely that Jong’s upward curve will continue into the New Year as they look to finish above main rivals Jong Ajax who are currently a point behind them in 8th.
Jong have been pretty reliable at De Herdgang this term with five wins and two draws from nine, including a 5-1 romp over 3rd placed Go Ahead Eagles on match day 16, and any performance close to that standard this Friday should be good enough to dispatch City who were thumped 6-1 by leaders Sparta Rotterdam when last on the road a fortnight ago.
The hosts did manage to secure one of their two previous wins against Almere City in last season’s corresponding fixture, and we’re confidently predicting a repeat this time around at a decent price, based on their strength in Eindhoven and excellent displays of late.
Almere have simply gone to pieces at the back over the last few weeks with 13 goals conceded in five, so this Jong PSV side, who have bagged 39 goals in 18 league matches, can run riot and a 3-0 success is not out of the question at lengthy odds.
