Rangers to Win

Reason for tip

Rangers have won six of their last seven home games in European competition. and are a mature line-up full of quality experience at this level. Most of the PSV team will not have experienced an atmosphere the like of what awaits them at Ibrox and could fold in a similar manner to Union SG in the previous round.

Rangers 2-1

Reason for tip

PSV have scored in all of their games this season and also each of their last seven Champions League games. Rangers have racked up nine in their three home games to date this term and exactly two in four of their last seven home European tussles, grabbing three goals apiece in the others.

Rangers vs PSV Predictions

  • Rangers have won six of their last seven home games in European competition.
  • Rangers have scored exactly two goals in four of those seven and three goals each other time.
  • Most of the PSV team will not have experienced an atmosphere the like of what awaits them at Ibrox.

PSV could shrink under the Ibrox spotlight

Rangers were roared to victory at home to Union SG in the previous round and a similar Ibrox atmosphere can power them to a Champions League play-off first-leg win over PSV on Tuesday. Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men seem to reserve their best for big nights like this, no doubt inspired by the fervent backing of their fans.

The Light Blues, who have won six of their last seven home games in European competition, should be backed to take a lead to Eindhoven for the return clash.

PSV are going well this season under new boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, but know they will have to be ready to handle Gers’ ’12th man’. The Lightbulbs overcame Monaco well enough in the third round, but playing in front of a paltry and placid crowd at the Stade Louis II is no preparation for what awaits them in Glasgow.

Rangers regularly scoring two or more in Europe

Van Nistelrooy is likely to be without midfielder Rochard Ledezma, injured in their 5-2 win over Go-Ahead Eagles last weekend. Joey Veerman is likely to come in while Xavi Simons could have done enough on Saturday to ensure he starts over the more experienced Guus Til.

Ryan Kent and James Sands, who started in the second-leg success over Union SG but missed Gers’ 4-0 home romp against St Johnstone, should be fine to come back in and bring the hosts back to full strength. The hosts have had slightly longer to recover from their weekend exertions, which may also be a factor late in the game.

A 2-1 home success is recommended in correct score betting because PSV have scored in all of their games this season and now all of their last seven Champions League games. Rangers have racked up nine in their three home games to date this term and exactly two in four of their last seven home European tussles.
