Roma to Win

Reason for tip

Rangers have lost all three of their Europa League games so far this season and Roma are the best side they will have faced so far in this competition. The Gers have won just two of their last seven games at Ibrox and look set to fall short against strong travellers Roma, who have won five of their six trips across all competitions.

Roma 1-0

Reason for tip

Rangers have scored just one goal in three games in the Europa League and will struggle to break Roma’s mean defence down. The Giallorossi have three clean sheets in six away games across all competitions, and all five of their road wins have come via one-goal margins so a 1-0 Roma win has a chance.

Rangers vs Roma Predictions

  • Roma have won five of their six away games in all competitions this season.
  • Rangers have lost all three of their league phase games.
  • Rangers have won just two of their last seven home games (D2, L3).

Make or break for Rangers in Europa

Rangers sit rock bottom of the standings in the league phase of the Europa League and the visit of Roma on Thursday is one they simply cannot afford to lose if they are to stand any realistic chance of being involved in the knockout stages.

The Glasgow club have lost to Genk, Sturm Graz and Brann in their opening fixtures, and with the likes of Braga and Porto to come in their remaining games it already looks a huge ask for Rangers to even challenge for a play-off spot.

Roma have been disappointing in this competition with two defeats and one win after three games but even as odds-on favourites it still makes sense to back the visitors to win as our main bet.

The Giallorossi have been far better on their travels than they have in Rome this season both domestically and in Europe. Roma won at Nice in their only Europa League road game so far and suffered a first away defeat of the season at AC Milan last time out, having won their opening five trips across all competitions. Indeed, Roma were incredibly unlucky not to take at least a point at the San Siro on the balance of play and they missed a penalty late on that would have levelled matters.

Rangers have improved in Danny Rohl’s brief time in charge so far but this test against a Serie A heavyweight could still prove a step too far. A 1-0 win for Roma seems a reasonable correct score prediction as Rangers have managed just one goal across their three Europa League games, while Roma have three clean sheets in six trips across all competitions and all of their road wins have come via one-goal margins.
