Majadahonda hoping to make history

Both of Rayo Majadahonda’s Copa del Rey clashes this year have ended in a 1-0 victory, but it is difficult to see them keeping a clean sheet against giants Atletico Madrid.

The third tier outfit, who sit in sixth place in the division, are into the third round for just the second time and have never previously faced a La Liga outfit in the competition. They are the home side for this clash but the fixture will be played at the Wanda Metropolitano.

When it comes to the league this season, they have scored in seven of their last eight games but are on a run of just two victories in their last five at home.

Atletico back in form?

After a run of three successive defeats, Atletico Madrid finally bounced back to winning ways at the weekend by defeating Rayo Vallecano 2-0.

Diego Simeone’s side, ten time winners of the Copa del Rey, although just once in the last 25-years, are desperate to avoid a repeat of the embarrassment they suffered 12 months ago when they lost at the same stage to third tier side Cornelia.

They have lost their last three away games, but before then were on a run of one defeat in six, and they have scored in all bar three of their 13 fixtures on the road this season.

Atleti would be left seriously red faced if they were to be knocked out by lowly opposition for the second year running, but I cannot see lightning striking twice.

I predict the hosts will grab themselves a goal, as Atleti have not kept a clean sheet on their travels this season, but I think Simeone’s side will get the win, selecting 3-1 as the correct score.
