Rayo Vallecano vs Celta Vigo Predictions
The hosts are having their toughest season since their return to the top flight and the safe mid-table finish they achieved last year looks a long way off right now. They were unfortunate not to take all the points at the Mestalla last weekend but the common theme of defensive errors saw the game end 2-2 and Rayo remain in the relegation zone and without a win in 10 matches.
Celta Vigo meanwhile look to have bounced back slightly from 3 consecutive league defeats around the New Year period that saw fall out of the top four and below in-form Villarreal.
They have responded to that disappointment with some good performances in the Copa Del Rey and an important 4-3 home win against Levante in the league last time out. The fact that they created so many chances and finished 4 of them off in the absence of star forward Nolito was extremely encouraging with John Guidetti stepping in to score twice. Defensively it was less positive though and a team challenging for the Champions League places shouldn’t really be conceding 3 goals at home to the division’s bottom club.
Goals look a near certainty in this fixture. Rayo have the worst defensive record in the league but only Valencia in the bottom half have scored more times than them. Celta Vigo meanwhile have the worst defensive record in the top half but only Barcelona and Real Madrid have scored more times than them so consider backing there to be over 2.5 goals in this game at 4/5.
Rayo Vallecano have at least avoided defeat in 3 of their last 5 which isn’t bad when you consider they’ve played Atletico Madrid twice in that period and against a Celta Vigo side that is wobbling a little, they are capable of getting another point here. At 11/1 a repeat of their 2-2 draw from last weekend looks worth backing at 11/1.
