Reading vs Derby Predictions
After both their opening two home games finished 0-0, Reading put in a stunning performance to thrash high-flying Ipswich 5-1 on Friday night in front of the TV cameras at the Madejski. Derby also had their most successful outing so far on Saturday, as they picked up their first win under Paul Clement at Preston.
They’ll be hopeful that result represents a real turning point and they can start climbing the table towards the top where most pundits predicted they would be this season. They might have a liked an easier game than this though to really get some momentum together with back-to-back wins but they should give Reading a real good game here.
Reading’s confidence will be sky high after their victory and they’ve also had an extra day of rest to prepare for it. Between them Orlando Sa and Nick Blackman have netted an incredible 7 goals in their last 2 games and they have the makings of an effective strike partnership.
They are unbeaten since the opening day when Sa missed a last minute penalty at St Andrews which would have given his side a point. He has more than made up for it though in the last two games and is starting to look like a player who could be a real danger for defences in this league.
Derby have conceded in every game they’ve played since the opening day so there is no reason to think they can’t add to that tally here. However the Rams play a lot of good football too and have their own selection of impressive forwards with an eye for goal, so there looks real value in backing there to be 3 or more goals in this game at Evens.
It’s one of a number of Championship games this midweek where it is hard to pick a winner though. Reading have only won one other league game at the Madejski since January so you couldn’t feel too confident about them reproducing the goods again, even though they were such convincing winners against Ipswich.
Derby have been draw specialists so far under Paul Clement and it would be no surprise if that was to be the case again here but given goals are likely consider backing it to finish 2-2 at 14/1 for healthy potential returns.
