Real Betis vs Valencia Predictions
Gary Neville is under enormous pressure now at Valencia where he is yet to win a game in La Liga. His side were thumped 7-0 at Barcelona in midweek in the Copa del Rey and since then there have been signs that the club’s fans and some legends of the club are turning against him.
Valencia are still 5 points above the relegation zone but if they fail to win either of the next two games against Betis and Espanyol, two sides who are also in very poor form, they could really be sucked into an unlikely dog-fight especially given they would still have all the top sides to play in the closing months of the season.
Neither of these clubs have won in over 2 months in La Liga with Valencia’s winless run now standing at 11 matches compared to the 9 games Real Betis have gone since last tasting maximum points. They’ve only won once at home all season in the league so they hardly approach home games with much confidence.
They have looked a bit tougher to beat since the arrival of Juan Merino and they’ve managed to snatch points from tough games with Villarreal and Real Madrid but the lack of a goal threat besides Ruben Castro remains a huge issue. Betis have by far the worst goalscoring record in La Liga with only 15 scored in 22 games. No other side has scored less than 20.
Valencia will be determined to put in a much better defensive showing than the one they showed in midweek and clearly the quality of the opposition is nowhere near the same. They created a fair few chances in their 1-0 defeat to Sporting last weekend but are another side struggling to put the ball in the net.
It’s hard to see there being many goals in this one, if any. There have been 2 or fewer goals in all of Valencia’s last 5 away games in the league. There have also been 2 or fewer goals in 6 of the last 7 matches at the Estadio Benito Villamarín so consider backing there to be under 2.5 goals at 13/20.
These are two sides that struggle to score goals and have forgotten how to win so consider backing this to end in a 0-0 stalemate at 7/1.
