Real Madrid vs Sporting Gijon Predictions
This is Real Madrid’s final league game before their clasico clash at Camp Nou next weekend so they’ll be keen to avoid any slip-ups here which will ensure they stay top of La Liga even if they lose at Barcelona. It’s virtually impossible to see an upset in this game in truth, with Los Blancos looking very good so far this season. They are unbeaten in 30 competitive matches now and it’s almost certainly going to take a better side than Sporting Gijon to end that run.
Cristiano Ronaldo hit an inspired hat-trick last weekend to see off Atleti and with Ballon d’Or just around the corner it was a timely reminder of his talents. Real Madrid have six players that are shorter than Evens to score anytime in this match which tells you all you need to know about how one-sided this game is likely to be. You can back Cristiano Ronaldo to score twice or more at Evens which perhaps offers a bit more value as he is quite capable of ripping into a poor visiting defence.
Sporting Gijon look a very poor side overall in truth and come into this game with just 2 points from their last 9 matches. They’ve already suffered 5-0 defeats against Atleti and an under-strength Barcelona this season and have conceded 3 goals in each of their last 2 matches too, so their defensive problems are very much still evident. They’ve let in 2.08 goals per game on average this season, which is the 2nd worst defensive record in La Liga and they haven’t been very good at the other end either, failing to score in 50% of their away games and 33% of their matches overall.
All things considered, this should be a walk in the park for Los Blancos. They don’t have any Champions League games in midweek to worry about so there’s no need to rotate and they may just want to send out a message ahead of their trip to Barcelona by racking up a heavy win. Sporting don’t have the tools to stop them if Real Madrid are at or anywhere near their best and ,therefore, backing Real Madrid -3 Asian Handicap at 31/40 looks like a safe bet here.
