Both teams capable of scoring

Both sides have scored in the last six MLS games between Real Salt Lake and Houston, and that run looks set to continue again when they meet at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Houston have more points than Real Salt Lake, but only just. The visitors have recorded seven wins, five draws and nine losses to sit on 26 points from their 21 games, while Real Salt Lake have six wins, four draws and ten defeats.

Real Salt Lake have been the winners in two MLS home games in a row, most recently beating St Louis 3-2 last weekend, but Houston are also on a good run, having won their last two matches, including a 4-3 victory over San Diego away from home.

Real Salt Lake have now won six of the 12 games in which they’ve scored first this season (50%). They have opened the scoring in their last three games, and this latest outing kept up their recent trend of matches with both teams scoring.

Both teams have scored in four of Real Salt Lake’s last six MLS matches, and they have been in some low-scoring games of late – seven of the last nine have gone under 2.5 goals – but there were five goals in their clash with St Louis last weekend, when they won 3-2.

BTTS had also come in by half time when Houston and Real Salt Lake last clashed in MLS in March.

Neither team has been strong at the back. Real Salt Lake have failed to keep a clean sheet in 16 of their last 20 MLS games, while Houston have gone seven without a shutout in this fixture but scored in ten successive MLS games.

Real Salt Lake may be able to edge out Houston in a 2-1 home win, with six of the visitors’ last seven MLS games featuring three goals or more. Real Salt Lake have won two of the last three meetings between the teams by a single goal.
