Inconsistent duo could serve up a cracker

Two sides that have been blighted by inconsistencies in Ligue 1 this season face off at Roazhon Park, where goals could be on the menu.

Rennes have lost 16 of their 29 league matches to leave themselves labouring in 11th in the French top-flight, while Nantes are five points worse off having won only seven of their 28 assignments.

Wins over Lille and Nice in their last three outings have helped Nantes ease their relegation fears, but they have lost on their last six visits to Roazhon Park.

Rennes are clearly better than they are showing and last weekend’s emphatic 5-1 victory at Le Havre highlights their capabilities on a going day.

But five of their last seven home league matches have resulted in defeat and backing both teams to score looks a much safer approach.

Nantes pack a punch in the final third

The net has bulged at both ends in ten of Nantes’s last 11 away league games, the only exception coming in a 2-0 loss at Marseille at the beginning of March.

Meanwhile, Rennes have managed only one clean sheet in five, but they are the top scorers in the bottom half of the table with 43 goals from their 29 outings.

Nantes have not kept a league clean sheet on their travels since August, a run stretching back 14 games, so they are unlikely to keep Rennes at bay.

The hosts do still look the most likely winners, however, so correct-score punters should opt for a 3-1 victory. Nantes have failed to score in only six of their 28 league games this term.
