Hungary to Win

Reason for tip

The managerless Irish are winless in four and they lack direction. The hosts have scored a single goal across those four internationals and they lost four of their final five Euro 2024 qualifiers too. With Hungary winning four games on the spin, back them to ease to victory.

Hungary 2-0

Reason for tip

Hungary have too much quality for the goal-shy Irish, so back them to score a couple of goals in a straightforward victory this week. The visitors have scored at least twice in five of their last six matches, so back a 2-0 win.

Dominik Szoboszlai To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Dominik Szoboszlai is more of a creator for Liverpool, but he’s everything to this Hungarian side. The midfielder has scored in four of his last five international appearances, scoring five times. He has far too much quality for this struggling Irish side.

Republic Of Ireland vs Hungary Predictions

  • The Republic of Ireland lost four of their final five qualifiers
  • The hosts have scored just once across their previous four internationals
  • Hungary have won their last three games and topped their qualifying group to make the Euros

Another setback for the Irish

The Republic of Ireland welcome a Hungary side who are prepping for Euro 2024 as the FAI sinks further into turmoil. Having been rumoured to want to replace boss Stephen Kenny for most of last year, he left his post as manager after the Euro 2024 qualifiers in November and he has yet to be replaced.

The Irish are without a win in four having drawn a blank at home to both Belgium and Switzerland in March. They lost four of their final five qualifiers in a dismal campaign where the closest they came to qualifying was losing a rare must-lose game in order to boost their hopes of a place in the play-offs. That never panned out and there’s been little sign of direction since.

The contrast to a rising Hungary team is huge, with the visitors winning three on the spin as they build up to the Euros. Hungary are expected to give a strong account of themselves, led by Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai. The midfielder is a real scoring threat for his country, netting in four of his last five games – scoring five times. His quality should shine through in this clash, so back him to net in a win for the visitors.
