Rosenborg vs Dnipro Predictions
This has the makings of a very close game and the bookies make the side from Ukraine slight favourites. However there is plenty of reason to doubt that. Even though Dnipro had a stunning run to the final last year, it was all done basically on the back of their home form. Away from home they only won 1 of their 8 Europa League games and that came against Qarabag of Azerbaijan.
Rosenborg were the stand-out side in Scandinavia during the early days of the Champions League but they lost their way for a long time although there are signs that they might be returning towards that position. They are 8 points clear at the top of the Norwegian league and seemingly crusing towards a first title in 5 years with the league at quite an advanced stage.
In Europe they’ve impressed too, winning 3-0 away to Steaua Bucharest in the 1st leg of their Europa League play-off and they picked up a good result in their opening group game drawing 2-2 away to Saint Etienne and they were only denied the win by a late penalty.
Against a Dnipro side who don’t travel too well they look well capable of another positive result. The Ukranians are likely to come here with a fairly cautious gameplan and they did draw 5 of their away games last year. For that reason it might be better to back Rosenborg to win in the ‘draw no bet’ market at 5/6.
If they do win it, it’s unlikely to be by a wide margin. With both opening group games drawn, this looks like it is going to be a really tight group and it is hard to see there being much in any of the games.
Dnipro will probably settle for a point here but with home advantage, Rosenborg may feel they can nick it and are decent value at 13/2 to win 1-0.
