Stalemate on the cards between Sandefjord and Stabaek

Last season in Norway’s Eliteserien Sandefjord only survived by the skin of their teeth and they are once again in the mix at the bottom in 2023.

After 11 matches in the league this year, Sandefjord have collected only nine points, leaving them in and around the relegation positions heading into this weekend’s matches.

Things went from bad to worse last Sunday as they were hammered 6-1 by Sarpsborg, having fallen 3-0 down after only 20 minutes in the match.

They also allowed their opponents 30 shots, 15 of which were on target, and that will be music to the ears of their next opponents Stabaek.

But Stabaek have not exactly been setting the division alight themselves and have lost three of their last four matches in the Eliteserien against Lillestrom, Tromso and Stromsgodset.

They are six points better off than Sandefjord with only two more wins to their name and, given it is Sandefjord who have home advantage in this one, the stalemate could instead be the best way to go.

The teams have drawn six matches between them this season and avoiding defeat could be key for both.
