Scunthorpe vs Swindon Predictions

After a summer which saw a dramatic conclusion to the cricket World Cup, an unbelievable finish to the Wimbledon mens final and heartbreak for England in the women’s football World Cup, it is now time to put those distractions to one side as the football season is once again upon us. This weekend’s opening fixutres in League Two pits recently relegated Scunthorpe United against a Swindon Town side who will be hoping they have done enough in the summer to ensure they can compete for promotion come the end of the campaign.

Scunthorpe United once again find themselves in the bottom tier of English football following their relegation at the end of last season and they know that if they are to get back to where they were, then there are a number of issues they need to address. The hosts finished last season with the second worst defensive record in League One as they conceded 83 times in their 46 matches and given that they also finished the season without a win in their last nine league matches, they also do not exactly carry much momentum in the new campaign.

The side hoping to pile on the misery for the hosts is a Swindon Town side who have largely flown under the radar in the off season. The visitors finished the last campaign firmly entrenched in mid-table and they know that if they are to start climbing towards the promotion places this time around, then they are going to have to compete better against the best sides in the division as last season 10 of their 14 defeats came against sides who finished higher than them in the league.

Both of these sides come into this match with plenty to prove and they saw plenty of goals in their matches last season. However, it is the head to head record which gives us the biggest insight, as the last 10 meetings between these two sides have seen both teams score in all but one match and have finished with 4.2 goals per game. With this in mind, we think that backing there to be over 2.5 goals scored is the way to go as there looks to be goals in this game.
