Senegal vs Cape Verde Islands Predictions
- Senegal won all four prior H2Hs, either by a 1-0 or 2-0 scoreline.
- All three of both sides’ AFCON 2021 games produced under 2.5 goals.
- Senegal have not conceded in 405 minutes of regulation time.
The Lions of Teranga can roar into the quarters
Pre-tournament favourites Senegal have looked rock-solid in this tournament so far as they have now extended their run of clean sheets to four games. They have not been super prolific at the other end, though they may only need one goal if they can keep up their admirable defensive efforts.
Senegal are the highest ranked African nation by FIFA (#20) and they will be hoping to show exactly why by eliminating Cape Verde in this clash, which would extend their unbeaten run to 15 games (90 minutes only: W9, D5).
Solid Sharks out to make history
While Cape Verde Islands and their diaspora of players have looked solid so far by beating Ethiopia and holding hosts Cameroon to a draw to get to this stage, Senegal will provide a much sterner test than all three of the sides they faced in group action.
The Sharks have never made it past the first knockout stage of an AFCON tournament and their last such appearance ended in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Ghana, the same scoreline in which they lost to Senegal in three of their last four meetings.
I think that Cape Verde are out of their depth in this clash and as such, it could very well spell the end of the road for them. As such, I predict a Senegal win, but a low-scoring 2-0 victory looks likely when considering the recent results of the sides.
