Sheffield Wednesday vs Wycombe Wanderers Predictions

  • Sheffield Wednesday have failed to win four of their last seven home league games.
  • Wycombe Wanderers have avoided defeat in eight of ten away League One matches this season.
  • Wycombe have scored ten goals in their last five away matches.

Chairboys sitting comfortably after November wobble

Wycombe Wanderers will provide a stern test for a Sheffield Wednesday side that have been getting away with some moderate performances of late when the promotion rivals meet at Hillsborough on Saturday.

Wycombe had a wobble earlier this month when they went without a win for six games in all competitions, but back-to-back league victories over Bolton and Plymouth have put them back on track.

The 3-0 victory over Argyle was particularly impressive as it inflicted a first Home Park defeat and shutout on the then-leaders. Gareth Ainsworth’s side, who have tightened up significantly since their 4-1 home loss to Ipswich, defend well from the front with Sam Vokes and Brandon Hanlan tirelessly closing down opponents in their own half.

Fine margins deciding most Wednesday games

They could be the key to getting a result against an Owls team that are unbeaten in their nine league games. Their best result during that sequence was the 3-0 win over Sunderland but, otherwise all of the games have been close and we expect Saturday’s clash to be decided by fine margins.

Wednesday deserved their win over the MK Dons last weekend, but one or two displays have been underwhelming recently and we think Wycombe’s new-found defensive solidity can earn them at least a share of the spoils at Hillsborough.

A 1-1 correct score is forecast here because the only time the Owls have conceded more than once at home was to Oxford’s stoppage-time winner and the Chairboys have shipped ten in ten road trips this term.
