Sligo Rovers have already fallen to two League of Ireland defeats to newly-promoted Shelbourne this term, going down 1-0 at home in early April and 2-1 on the road one month later. But with new boss John Russell at the helm, last season’s third-placed finishers look reinvigorated, and will be confident of exacting their revenge at The Showgrounds on Saturday.

Having gone five games without a win, losing three, prior to the departure of Liam Buckley, Sligo have gone four without defeat since Russell took charge, including winning each of their last two home games. Indeed, Shelbourne’s form has nosedived since a 2-0 win over UCD earlier this month, with former Chelsea wideman Damien Duff overseeing a three-match winless (and goalless) run. While Shelbourne’s solid start to the season has staved off any fears of a relegation battle, their their record of just three wins in nine away games does not bode well for a trip to a Sligo side benefitting from a new manager bounce.
