Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Portugal have been in good scoring form in qualifying but they face a Slovakia side who will set up to frustrate them. Slovakia have managed three successive home clean sheets and under 2.5 goals has landed in four of their last five games. Portugal haven’t conceded in qualifying and the hosts have been breached just once, so goals could be in short supply and under 2.5 goals appeals here.

Portugal 1-0

Reason for tip

Portugal have a perfect record in qualifying and can continue that run with a win, but Slovakia are strong defensively and are unlikely to roll over. As such, a hard-fought 1-0 win for the visitors appeals.

Slovakia vs Portugal Predictions

  • Slovakia have conceded just one goal in four qualifiers
  • Portugal are yet to concede in qualifying.
  • Under 2.5 goals have been scored in four of Slovakia’s last five games.

Top two clash in Group J

Portugal lead the way in Group J with four wins from four games and they head to closest rivals Slovakia on Friday.

The hosts are also unbeaten and will probably set up to keep the game tight as they seek to hold on to second spot.

Goals could be in short supply

Portugal are the clear favourites to win this fixture so the value could be found elsewhere, and under 2.5 goals looks a decent option.

Slovakia have a three-point lead over Luxembourg in third spot so if they were able to claim a point they would remain in the driving seat for second place. As such, the hosts will probably line up to frustrate Portugal and they are a formidable defensive side at home.

Slovakia have managed clean sheets in each of their last three games on home soil, two of which have been at this venue in Bratislava.

Portugal are capable of scoring heavily on occasion but they did have to settle for a 1-0 win in Iceland in their last trip. This could be a tricky game for Roberto Martinez’s side but they have the quality to maintain their perfect run and a hard fought 1-0 win for the visitors is the correct score selection.
