South Korea vs Egypt Predictions

  • South Korea have won seven of their last ten home games.
  • Egypt have lost their last two away games.
  • Both nations are missing some key players with Mo Salah not in the Egypt squad.

Korea so strong at home

South Korea can get back to winning ways against a depleted Egypt in Seoul on Tuesday, although the hosts are also missing a couple of their key men and coach Paulo Bento is in the mood to experiment.

The Taeguk Warriors will play their fourth friendly match of the month and, after a 5-1 opening defeat to Brazil, they have fared much better of late with a 2-0 victory over Chile 2-0 and a 2-2 draw with Paraguay that featured a second-half comeback from a 2-0 deficit.

Bento’s boys should get another win against the Pharaohs, who are also reportedly without VfB Stuttgart striker Omar Marmoush, as their home record over the last 12 months is very strong. South Korea have won seven of their last ten on home turf, losing only that one game to Brazil and drawing twice to Iraq and Friday’s thriller against Paraguay.

Egypt are missing Salah and struggling to sparkle

Egypt lost only one of their four away World Cup qualifiers, but it was a crucial one against Senegal that means they won’t be going to Qatar and probably explains why some bigger names are not in Korea for this friendly. Without Salah, Ehab Galal’s men lost their opening AFCON qualifier away to Ethiopia last week and don’t seem to be as solid as they used to be at the back any more.

South Korea won’t have a full squad, either, having already lost defensive rock Kim Min-jae and midfielder Jung Woo-young to injuries while Bento has indicated midfielder Hwang In-beom, another mainstay in his usual starting XI, will miss Tuesday’s match.

That said, the strength in depth for the hosts is such that they should create enough chances to score. And, with Egypt lacking both sparkle and solidity, the 4/7 quote about a home win seems fair enough. A win to nil should be a consideration too, but we will cover that possibility with a 2-0 correct score recommendation that factors in how Egypt have failed to score in five of their last six games played outside their borders.
